Twenty
Early Keyboards
Played by Kenneth Mobbs on instruments from the Mobbs
Keyboard Collection. KensoundCD01
This professionally-produced CD is an exceedingly interesting
compilation of movements from various digital recordings
made by Kenneth Mobbs, some quite recent and others stretching
back in time several years. There are 22 tracks in all,
occupying a total time of 76 minutes. A serious attempt
has been made in every case to match the instrument as closely
as possible with the composer chosen. Particularly interesting
are performances using some very rare instruments and the
sound comparisons which can be made from them (for example,
between the two Upright Grands). Listeners should also be
prepared for an aural shock during the performance of the
Haydn Minuet (track 8) where the cunning construction of
the movement is demonstrated by what is rapidly becoming
obsolete technology.
